Many a time in trying to live a more natural life I have run into instances where the “natural” way might not even work at all. Do we live with the mosquito bites or do we slather our bodies in toxic chemicals? Do we live with pulling weeds the old fashioned way forever and forever or do we give in and finally just buy some round up for a couple of places in our yards? Oftentimes “convenience” is one very tempting mistress no matter how terrible we know it may be for us and the environment so here are a few (tried and true!) natural and green recipes for those places around our homes that we all struggle with!

As you all know I hang around Hometalk a lot these days and all of these come from there and include a plethora of comments from other folks and bloggers sharing their own natural recipes and insights. There’s a lot to learn living a green and natural life but if we all put our heads together there’s no reason we can’t figure our replacements for all of the conveniences in our lives!

Have a few of your own tried and true recipes that replace some of those modern conveniences? Share with us in the comments! I’ll never forget my Grandma getting so mad at my dad (or one of my uncles or someone… I was a little kid, I only know it was another person) because this guy was trying to convince her that the only way to stop a tree from growing back was to take the stump out entirely. But she didn’t want to do that at all (not one bit) she liked her stump for covering with flower pots in the summer time and as a squirrel feeder in the winter time. She patiently (as patiently as a full blooded German woman who lived through WWII explains anything) for him to just drill some holes in the stump for her so she could fill them with salt. Of course, she was right, and it worked like a charm and she used that stump for years.

These are great – I’ll have to try the bug spray and the ant deterrent. I finally made a batch of your homemade laundry powder last week and I love it – it works really well! xx

It’s been a hell of a ride since I started this blog and renovated and moved into this old farm house back in 2015. I got married, divorced, lost my doggo soul mate, spent two years as a single gal, remodeled everything, threw my back out countless times and was even found by an amazing guy in my own backyard! (The story behind Storyhardt Farm.)

Around here we’re totally fearless when it comes to bettering our home. We love to refinish old furniture, re-purpose old pieces, build it from scratch and totally renovate anything that needs it! If we can do it – so can you. We’ve got some serious plans for this old farm and, for first time ever, I have a real partner!
This is gonna be so much fun!

You can also find out more about the amazing Grandma behind this blog who moved in to this old farmhouse with my Grandpa nearly 70 years ago!
