My husband and I usually use our doona to take baby places, but today involved stairs and other non stroller friendly places so we took our chicco keyfit 35. Idk if it’s bc we’re just not used to it or what but we had a disagreement about the shoulder strap pads. One of us thinks that they are how they are supposed to be because they are separating his chin from his chest, preventing positional asphyxiation. But another one of us thinks it is way too tight against his neck/throat, making positional asphyxiation more likely. What do you think?

I’d go back to your user manual and see what it states. But it looks correct from their adds on other websites. For example this websites photo is almost identical to your babes https://www.westcoastkids.ca/keyfit-35-cleartex-infant-car-seat

We have the same car seat, and that looks correct! However, depending on your baby’s weight you could always remove the pads— our baby has outgrown the newborn insert so we took it out, and I think the pads are part of it.

The clip in the middle can come down a little bit, that will allow them to space out to the sides a little bit (that clip should be even with armpits it looks slightly higher)
Check your car seat manual about their recommendations on the configuration for your babies height and weight, or their website.
